Service Description

We assess the overall cerebrovascular status and reflect the risk of stroke via Automatic Retinal Image Analysis (ARIA), in which we look at the automatic retinal image and examine if the capillaries in a person's eyes are narrowed, bleeding, blocked, or having abnormal curvature and bifurcation angles. The ARIA technology, developed by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, has been patented in the United States with 94% accuracy. Stroke is caused by "blockage" or "bursting" of blood vessels. Low oxygen and nutrients concentrations may result in death of nerve cells and will trigger neurologic symptoms. If warning signs are early detected, risk of stroke can be reduced by immediate treatment. Stroke Risk Assessment - Automatic Retinal Image Analysis (ARIA) Through automatic retinal image analysis, we can examine if the capillaries in a person's eyes are narrowed, bleeding, blocked, or having abnormal curvature and bifurcation angles (this is commonly found in patients with coronary heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes). If warning signs are early detected, risk of stroke can be reduced by immediate treatment.

FAQ

What are the causes of stroke?

Experts have pointed out that fast food culture is closely associated with stroke among youngsters. The consumption of high-fat food can result in high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugar, contributing to increased risk of vascular diseases and stroke.

How long will stroke symptoms last?

Stroke is a type of cerebrovascular disease. The blood supply to the brain is reduced or blocked for some reason, resulting in a sudden lack of oxygen to brain cells, which can cause damage to brain cells and loss of function within a few minutes. This in turn impairs the function of the part of the body governed by the brain cells.

What is the chance of stroke recurrence?

Stroke is a serious medical emergency with a mortality rate of 30% within three months. However, more than half of the survivors will regain full self-care ability, and less than 20% of the patients have severe disabilities. In addition to the severity of the brain damage (including the type, extent, and site of the stroke), the development of complications, the patient's self-care ability prior to the stroke, the attitude of the patient and the support given by the family/caregivers, as well as the rehabilitative treatment also play decisive roles in recovery of the patient.

When should I have a heart check-up?

It varies from person to person. People with hypertension, poor living habits, imbalanced diet, inherited diseases or family history of diseases, overweight and obese people, and elderly people are best to have a timely heart check-up every year, in accordance with the advice given by doctors. For people in good health, check-ups are usually carried out every 1 to 2 years.
