FAQ

How often should I have a gynaecological examination?

Regular gynaecological check-ups are available from the age of 20. For those who had sexual experience should undergo cervical screening (Pap smear and HPV) to detect abnormalities on cervical tissues. Some gynaecological diseases may have initial symptoms that are not obvious, such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cyst or fibroid tumor, and STDs, regular check-ups can help prevent relevant diseases and manage the health of cervical cells.

It is recommended for women aged 30 or above to have a breast sonography to check for breast cysts and tumors, as well as the structure of each layer of the mammary gland, the shape and texture of the masses. Moreover, it is a non-radiographic test that is particularly suitable for women who are expecting, pregnant or breastfeeding. If needed, referrals can be made to schedule a mammography. In addition, pelvic sonography can be used to detect uterus and ovaries abnormalities, such as cysts, uterine fibroids and endometrioma and so forth, which is conducive to early detection of cervical and ovarian cancer. Combined with tumor markers CA15-3 and CA 125, breast and ovarian cancer can be detected in an early stage, noting that the 5-year survival rate for stage I ovarian cancer can reach as high as 90%!

If you are planning to have children, you may have an Anti-Müllerian Hormone test (AMH), which is key indicator of the estimated number of eggs in your ovary. For women aged 40 or above approaching menopause, calcium screening is recommended as they are at higher risk of breast cancer and osteoporosis. Regular gynaecological check-ups can help identify these risks early.

What should middle-aged women pay attention to when choosing for a health check?

In addition to regular gynaecological check-ups and cervical smears, doctors will provide recommendation on cancer screenings, including mammography and sonography, depending on the risk of woman getting breast cancer. Bone densitometry is also recommended for older post-menopausal women or those who are underweight.

How long does it take to make an appointment?

Please make your appointment at least 1 working day in advance. Call (852) 2156 5857 or leave your name and contact number via WhatsApp (852) 6324 5948. We will respond within a business day.

Is there anything in particular I should prepare for?

You need to be fasted for eight hours before your blood glucose test, i.e., no food intake in the morning before your examination. Only small portion of water intake is allowed. It is best for women to avoid the check-up during menstruation.

Does a Pap smear test hurt?

A Pap smear test is not painful if one is relaxed during the examination. While sometimes you may have a mild discomfort, deep and slow breathing can help to relieve the soreness. Pause our doctors or nurses if you are feeling really uncomfortable in the course of the test.
